What I Learned Last Week (12/23/2013 – 12/29/2013 )

As you’ll see below, it’s a good thing we don’t do anything for Christmas day!

Monday, Dec. 23, 2013

  • How to cook filet mignon.
  • Jim Carrey wrote himself a check for $10 million (before he ever had money) and kept it in his wallet. He gave himself a few year deadline to make that much by a certain day, and he just made it!

Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013

  • That I know better than to start drinking at 5 pm when I know I’m going to be out all night (even if it is Christmas Eve).  Yet I did it anyway!

Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013

  • That spending a night with a certain person named  Karen, will most likely always result in a hangover!
  • That a hangover will now debilitate me for an entire day.
  • That the only other time I didn’t do some form of exercise since embarking on my healthy lifestyle journey, was the last time I spent the evening with said person named Karen!

Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013

  • While many of today’s spiritual teachers have a lot of interesting things to say (much of what I resonate with), it doesn’t hurt to maintain a healthy dose of skepticism.

Friday, Dec. 27, 2013

  • While hiking around our frozen reservoir and listening to the audio book version of Siddhartha, it occurred to me that like Siddhartha himself, perhaps my journey right now is to not so much be taught (or shown the way) by others, but to find myself my self.

  • There’s good and bad in having a substitute yoga teacher. Good, in that you can learn some things you weren’t doing correctly, as well as learning some new poses. Bad, in that it can take you out of your comfort zone. Come to think of it, I guess that’s a good thing too!
  • That I can’t find a good Amazon WordPress plug-in to make it easy to add a sidebar widget of books I’m currently reading, which will also insert my affiliate link. (I know I can use one of Amazon’s widgets, but those tend to get blocked by Adblock. I may end up just doing that anyway as I don’t feel like futzing around with it anymore!

Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013

  • Lots of really interesting stuff about vulnerability, guilt, shame and love from Brene Brown.
  • There’s a trail (or will be one) called the Upper Charles Trail which connects my town (Ashland) with the surrounding towns of Milford, Hopkinton, Sherborn, and Holliston. That’s pretty cool and something I want to learn more about. Holliston seems to be working on theirs, but I’m not sure yet what (if anything) Ashland has done.
