What I Learned Last Week (12/16/2013 – 12/22/2013)

When I’m not doing something physically active or cooking, I spend a lot of my time reading and listening to educational/inspirational videos. In order to try to remember a bit of what I’m learning (even if it’s just silly stuff) I decided to write down a few things that I learn each day.

In that spirit, here’s what I learned last week:

Monday, Dec. 16, 2013

Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013

  • That there’s such a thing called the “Charter for Compassion.”
  •  That it was a really good idea to throw my Microspikes into my yoga backpack when I headed out to walk to the gym today in during the snowstorm. I was slipping like crazy on the  way over without them on,  but walking like a champ on the way home while wearing them.
  • mango-sausageThat fresh mango and spicy chicken sausages go really well together. (This had jalapeno chicken sausage, fresh mango, red bell pepper, diced jalapeno, cilantro, spinach and basmati brown rice.)

  • Sledding after not having done it in over 35 years is fun, but the bumps are killer!

  • There’s a bootleg FoxNews channel online with live streaming so that I can watch when my daughter Corie happens to be on…yay! (We don’t have cable hooked up to our TVs.)
  • Learned how to edit a YouTube video (at least figured out how to cut some off the beginning and the end…no idea how to cut in the middle though!)

Thursday, Dec. 19. 2013

  • That people are too uptight about baking ingredients. You can easily switch things up and still have good results.
  • That I’ve noticed how much I’ve slowed down the overall pace of my life and how relaxed that makes me feel.

Friday, Dec. 20, 2013

  • How to fix my Yoast SEO WordPress plug-in so that it starting showing up again after a few weeks absence!

Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013

  • That my son Tim works so hard at Brown all semester that when he gets home for vacation he promptly comes down with something and has to sleep for a few days.

Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013

  • When Corie says she can do her make-up and be ready in 15 minutes, she really can’t!
  • That life is supposed to be all about  having fun and enjoying every moment.
